Keyboard Shortcut Programs

Ever wish that you could just use your keyboard instead of your mouse too? Well its easy with keyboard shortcuts. In this post we will go over a keyboard shortcut program for all both Windows and Mac.

Windows

Well, for Windows I personally use a program called Launchy. It’s not as great as the Mac program we ill go over below, but it does its thing. You can download launchy here.

Basically all you have to do is press alt+tab and than start typing the name of your favorite program, bookmark, mp3, anything you like. You can even catalog network drives so you can get to folders with out browsing. Just typing.

To do this you have go into Launchy’s settings. Once in there you can go to the catalog tag. Now I tried to have it search the network folder but it doesn’t work. You have to actually mount the network drive to your computer, easy enough. Open up My Computer. Go to Tools/Map Network Drive. Follow the on screen steps. Your done.

Now go back to Launchy’s settings and tell it to catalog that new drive. Done. Now you can just type the name of the folder and it will open the folder in explorer for you. Below I screen shot some of these steps:

Selecting the Launchy’s options menu (Right-click to get the hidden menu):

Launchy’s options catalog menu (Probably should only scan 1 directory as it may take forever!):

Mac OS X

Ahh Mac, the program that started this ideas was called Quicksilver. This program does everything for you. You can do just about anything you want with this program, and you don’t even have to catalog it. It’s amazing! Probably one of my favorite Mac applications. Below are some screen shots:
